Robert R. Dixon Memorial Unity Park

Dixon Park

Robert R. Dixon Memorial Unity Park is located at N. 17th St. (behind HEB).

Robert R. Dixon had many accomplishments and left an amazing legacy in West Columbia. He is to date the only African American to have served as mayor of our community.  In addition, he was the first African American to have served as mayor of our community. This park serves as  a memorial to Mr. Dixon, but it also serves as a unifying symbol for our city.

The City of West Columbia would like to recognize and thank the following: Dixon Funeral Home, especially Audrey Dixon, for the Robert R. Dixon Memorial monument.

The Playground is sponsored by Commissioner Larry Stanley through the Community Development Block Grant Program.

Josh Cooper, for his Eagle Scout project of picnic tables and trash can.

The Charlie Brown Class of 1965 for five trees.

To all who have made donations that have made it possible to purchase some of the other items located in the park.
