FILLED - Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer
The city is looking for an individual to serve as the city's Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer.  To be a successful candidate, applicants must have the ability to work well with people, possess excellent communication skills and be able to obtain the necessary licenses and certifications associated with this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


(A) Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent;

(B) Any equivalent combination of education and five years experience in the construction field;

(C) Possession of a valid plumbing inspector license from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners or ability to obtain within one year from date of employment;

(D) Possess and maintain a current Class C Texas Driver's License with no more than three moving violations (no more than one per year) in the last five years;

(E) Possess excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational skills, work well with other department heads, general public and supervisors; and

(F) Pass a background check with no felony convictions, PI's or DWI's and pass drug screen.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


            (A) Possesses a Texas Code Enforcement Officer License or ability to obtain within six months from date of employment.

            (B) Possesses current ICC Building Code Certification or ability to obtain within five years.



Necessary knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


(A) Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities;

(B) Ability to work safely, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public and to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

(C) Must have considerable knowledge of International Codes including but not limited to building, electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing and fire prevention codes, city ordinances and other regulations as applicable.

(D) Must be able to read and understand blueprints, ordinances, and construction laws and to identify areas of noncompliance.

Hourly rate will be dependent on skills and qualifications.  Salary Range is $37,440 to $41,600 with 2:1 Retirement, paid medical insurance, dental and vision, paid holidays, paid vacation and sick time.

Lifeguard Training required:

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING 
Enroll in training and become a certified lifeguard through the American Red Cross.  Upon completion of this course, participants will earn a certificate in Lifeguarding and First Aid, as well as a certificate in Professional Rescuer CPR & AED (expires after 2 years).  All participants must complete a prerequisite swim test before registering for this training.  Participants must be a least 15 years of age before the last day of class.  Classes are scheduled over a four day span and participants must attend all sessions and pass a series of tests to receive their certification.  Classes have limited space.  Classes will be held at the following facilities:

Fee: $125
Registration Deadline:  5:00pm on Friday prior to start date of class

**Register with friends and save!  If three participants register for the same course at the same time, the cost per participant is ONLY $100!  YOU SAVE $25 PER PERSON. **

Other Requirements:  Prerequisite swim test (This test must be completed before registering for course):
  • Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breast stroke demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.  Goggles may be used for this swim.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.  Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
  • Retrieve a 10lb brick from a depth of at least 7ft and swim 20 yards back to wall and exit pool within a time limit of 1 minute and 40 seconds.

The City of West Columbia is currently taking applications for a full-time Police Telecommunications Officer with shift scheduling.  Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, communication skills, computer experience, typing ability and be able to work calmly in high stress situations.  Prior experience preferred but not required.  Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
