Family Folkways : Dedication Day

Saturday, March 28, 2020

Our Family Folkways Series helps children and their families discover the people who lived on Varner-Hogg and the work they did on the plantation. Each month, we’ll explore how landowners, enslaved people, sharecroppers, cowhands, and roughnecks grew crops, took care of their families, kept the plantation running, and responded to the changes that took place in Texas in the 1800s and early 1900s. Varner-Hogg was dedicated on March 28, 1958, which also commemorated Gov. Jim Hogg's birthday. Come celebrate our 62nd anniversary as a state historic site with special guests THE CANE ISLAND VOLUNTEERS, a fun group of early Texas re-enactors from Katy.
