Brazos River Update 5/10/2019In response to National Weather Service forecasts and Brazos River projected levels, The City of West Columbia is asking all of its citizens to remain aware and vigilant to the potential for rising river levels and the possibility of flash flooding. An additional round of thunderstorms are still possible: most likely late Friday night and Saturday. With outflow drainage beginning to be compromised by encroaching river water, the potential for flash flooding, and road flooding is increased. DO NOT bypass barricades. If you encounter road flooding without barricades, please contact West Columbia Police Department at 979-345-5121. Depending greatly on the amount of rainfall in the Brazos River Watershed, the National Weather Service is predicting a possible crest of the Brazos in the afternoon and the evening hours of Sunday, May 12 as high as 29'. Should the river reach this projected level, those properties on the East side of the City affected during the flood events in 2016 and/or 2017 could see similar effects. Heading into the weekend please stay tuned to local weather forecasts, Brazoria County, and City of West Columbia outlets for additional updates
